Secure, modern, and B2B-oriented online store for Hanna Service d.o.o.

Project Overview

  • Client: Hanna Service (distributor of Hanna Instruments measuring equipment)
  • Service: Development, optimization, security maintenance, and B2B overhaul of the Magento online store
  • Technology: Magento 2 (upgrade to version 2.4.8), CSP implementation
  • Markets: Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, DACH region (Germany, Austria), Morocco/Africa (7 languages)

Hanna Service is a partner of the world-renowned measuring instrument manufacturer Hanna Instruments. It sells pH meters, photometers, reagents, and other analytical equipment to customers in laboratories, industry, agriculture, and public institutions.

The online store operates in multiple markets and 7 languages: Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, German-speaking countries, Morocco, and Africa.

When we took over development and maintenance, the goal was clear: keep the store secure and up to date, make it easier to maintain, and adapt it to the new business focus—online sales exclusively for B2B business customers.

Main Objectives

  • Takeover and stabilization of the existing store, along with upgrading to the latest platform version
  • Enhanced security and regulatory compliance across all markets
  • Transformation of the store into a B2B model with business data verification
  • A simpler and more transparent purchasing process

Platform Takeover and Upgrade

The online store runs on the Magento 2 platform.

Following the takeover, we cleaned up the code, audited the installed plugins, set up the development environment, and upgraded the system to Magento 2.4.8. We regularly apply official security patches and update extensions. As a result, the online store remains fast and secure, protecting the client from external vulnerabilities. We also improved speed (TTFB) through a faster server infrastructure and Varnish Cache integration.

Security and Regulatory Compliance

Operating in multiple countries requires compliance with various regulations. We implemented a Content Security Policy (CSP) to protect visitors from malicious code, updated the cookie management system, added the legal notice (Impressum) required in Austria and Germany to the footer, and removed the display of prices in Croatian kuna, which was no longer needed after the adoption of the euro.

For hazardous products, such as certain reagents, we created a special warning label and enabled purchases on an order-only basis. This ensures buyers see important product information before completing their purchase.

Transition to B2B Sales

  • Clear notices everywhere: on product pages, in the cart, during registration, at checkout, and in the confirmation email, buyers are informed that the store is strictly B2B.
  • Mandatory company details: company name and VAT ID or tax code are required fields during registration and checkout.
  • Fields are customized for each specific market.
  • Terms and conditions confirmation: before placing an order, buyers must confirm that they are purchasing on behalf of a company and that their details are accurate.

Better Checkout User Experience

We redesigned the checkout to make purchasing faster. We enhanced the mobile user experience and updated numerous translations, eliminating bottlenecks in the purchase process—such as adding items to the cart and viewing orders in the user account.
